[caption id="attachment_2914" align="alignnone" width="350"] Free Wine Tasting on Saturday, December 22[/caption]
First up we have Cremant De Bourgogne Rose from Burgundy, France. This wine is one of a kind, as not all Crémant de Bourgogne are created equal. Michael and Harmon Skurnik have searched for years for a Crémant de Bourgogne that can deliver the quality and value that the Skurnik name has come to represent. With Victorine de Chastenay, they have found that rare combination. Long an afterthought for many producers in Burgundy, these delicious sparklers come from fruit in the Côtes de Nuits and Côtes De Beaune in Burgundy. Buy Online Here!
Second up we have Banshee Pinot Noir from Sonoma County. The 2016 edition is an exciting, yet friendly wine. It is bursting at the seams with aromas of macerated wild berries and an elegant, soft earth undertone. The flavors combine both sweet and tart, reminiscent of Santa Rosa plums and wild blackberries that grow so commonly in Sonoma Wine Country. The finish is bright, slightly herbal, and savory making this an excellent food wine. It is also a charming drinking experience by itself.
Third up we have Jax Vinyards Cabernet Sauvignon 2016 from Napa Valley, California. This wine is rated 91 points by Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate, and new to our store. Made up of 97% Cabernet Sauvignon and 3% Cabernet Franc. The deep garnet-purple colored 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon Estate is scented of cedar, cassis and camphor with herbs and earth. The medium to full-bodied palate is vivacious with loads of fruit and a velvety texture with a refreshing finish. Buy Online Here!
Fourth up we have Tenuta Santa Maria Pragal. The Pragal comes from the Bertani family estate in the Val d’Illasi, and is a fruity, spicy blend of 60% Corvina, 20% Merlot and 20% Syrah. While the Merlot and Syrah are harvested in September, and vinified immediately, the Corvina is picked in October. It is then left to dry for a month before fermentation on the skins for approximately three weeks. This is followed by fining for six months in large oak barrels, as well as a small amount in barrique. After 6 months of aging in oak, the Corvina is assembled with the Merlot and Syrah before aging briefly in the bottle prior to release.
And last but certainly not least, our fifth featured wine will be Malvira Roero Arnies 2017. This is a white Italian wine you must try! Straw yellow in color, this wine offers aromas of fresh citrus fruits. On the palate, it is refreshing and savory. Buy Online Here!
We will have reds, a white, and even a sparkling rose open for you to try before you make your most important purchase this holiday season. Don’t miss out and stop in Saturday, we can’t wait to see you.
Buffalo Trace Distillery and Their Answer to The Great Bourbon ShortageBuffalo Trace Distillery in Frankfort, Kentucky claims to be the oldest continually-operating distillery within the United States. The distillery has operated under numerous monikers, such as George T. Stagg Distillery, and the Old Fire Copper (O.F.C.). Records indicate that distilling has been happening on that site since 1775! With time comes priceless knowledge about fan favorites and trends. The Buffalo Trace Distillery doesn’t just produce Buffalo Trace bourbon, but also Blanton’s, Eagle Rare, George T. Stagg, Stagg Jr, Colonel E.H. Taylor, W L Weller, the forever coveted Pappy Van Winkle line, as well as many others. The popularity of bourbon has skyrocketed within the past few years. There seems an ever growing amount of wonderful bourbons out there, but never enough bottles of the favorites seem to be readily available. Buffalo Trace Distillery’s solution to the great bourbon shortage is unique. They produce small batches of high quality bourbon, rather than a mass quantity of mass produced whiskey. They have allocated a number of bottles per store, making their bourbons more accessible and to ensure every state receives some of their bourbons. They have also started producing more of some of the fan favorites, such as their W L Weller line, and the Buffalo Trace line. Unfortunately, bottles such as Pappy or George T. Stagg will see little growth in production, making these bottles harder to obtain than ever. At E-Ville Spirits and Wines, we carry many bottles from the Buffalo Trace Distillery. We carry the everyday bottles of Eagle Rare, Colonel E H Taylor, and Buffalo Trace Bourbons, as well as the Sazerac Rye. We also get random shipments throughout the year of our allocated bottles of Weller, Pappy, George T Stagg, and Blanton’s. Stop in and see what treasured bottles we have at any given time, or join our bourbon club for exclusive knowledge on when the rarer bottles arrive!
A typical wine tasting at E-Ville Spirits and Wines will feature both red wines and white wines. Cabernet Sauvignons are a popular type of red wine that we sample often. The Pinot Noir grape is one of our favorites and more often than not we will have a fine Pinot for you to try. Chardonnay, is another wine that we like to feature. A chardonnay can be oaked or unoaked and wine tastings can provide you with a comparison to see which appeals to your palate more. Know that you don’t like oak? Our Pinot Grigio or Sauvignon Blancs are most likely more your style of white wine. Most of the wines that we taste can be purchased in the shop and online right here. We like to have wine tastings that expose you to new wines with unique flavors so you can try something new before you buy it. Want to join us at our upcoming wine tastings? Store your bourbon upright.
Unlike wine which should always be stored on it’s side, bourbon should always be stored in the upright position. You want to protect the cork in the bourbon bottle. The high alcohol content of the bourbon will destroy the cork if it is in contact with it for a long period of time.
Keep it out of direct sunlight.
While there is no hard proof that direct sunlight will hurt or ruin your collection, it certainly won’t help it so why take the risk. If you have the space set up your bourbon storage or display in an area that is out of the direct sunlight.
Protect your bourbon from temperature extremes.
The ideal bourbon storage area would be one that is consistent in temperature. Storing your bourbon in a hot attic space or above a garage is not ideal. Extreme heat can cause significant loss in volume of your bourbon as evaporation occurs. An easily accessible living space is the best option for bourbon storage. If the temperature of the room is comfortable for you then it’s good for your bourbon too.
Bourbon storage doesn’t have to be difficult, allow yourself to be creative and have fun with it.
We love bourbon at E-Ville Spirits and we pride ourselves on carrying some of the best small batch bourbons available anywhere. You can stop in the store located at 10 Monroe St. in Ellicottville, NY 14731 or you can shop online for all of the bourbons that we have in stock.
Cabernet Sauvignon is a small, blueish colored, thick-skinned grape. It has a high pip (which gives it it’s tannins) to pulp ratio. The thick skins give it the deep rich color. One of our favorite varieties, Cabernet is now considered the worlds most prevalent red wine grape variety and quality Cabernet grapes are grown throughout the world.
What are the Characteristics of Cabernet?
The flavor profile of a Cabernet will vary depending on where the grape is grown. It can even vary from one region or sub-region to another. What do you look for when your choosing a Cabernet? Some of the best Cabernet Sauvignon wines are full bodied with a good well balanced structure and deep color. They are tannic in youth, especially when matured in oak, and often require a few years to soften before they become enjoyable to drink.
Why does Cabernet Quality Matter?
First of all, nobody wants to throw their money away ever, right? So first and foremost if you are not buying a Cabernet of good quality then you are just wasting your money, enough said. Secondly, do you like to lay your wines down and let them age? If so then Cabernet quality should matter to you. A good quality Cabernet can be quite tannic in youth. With a few years of aging it will soften and become enjoyable to drink. Many Cabernet wines are organic or even biodynamic and quality Cabernet’s don’t have additives. So when you are spending your money, spend wisely and remember that Cabernet quality does matter.
